BBF Achievement

Major Achievements by BBF (2015-1989)

  1. Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ordered that BBF would be associated with MOHFW on IYCF activity in 2009.
  2. Offices, courts, shopping malls, Banks, Insurance, Hospitals, all Govt. and Non Govt. organizations are to arrange for breastfeeding and establish day care centre;
  3. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation are to work together to strengthen the activities on Breastfeeding and Appropriate Complementary Feeding and Maternal Nutrition;
  4. To increase maternity leave from 4 to 6 months (4 months with pay & if wishes further 2 months without pay )
  5. To build up Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation as a strong organization.
  6. To observe the World Breastfeeding Week from 1-7 August as National event by the Government from the next year.
  7. To arrange for the expression of the mental and intellectual development of children by appointing child psychologist in each school and hospital of the country.
  8. For the first time ‘World Breastfeeding Week-2010’ (WBW) observed as the national event by the Govt. of the Republic of Bangladesh in association with BBF and inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister
  9. BBF worked closely with GOB to prepare and pass new BMS law on September 22, 2013.
  10. Establishment of Breast Milk Substitute (BMS) Code Monitoring System in Bangladesh through IPHN and UNICEF in 2013 (ongoing).
  11. From 2011 till date BBF has started revitalization of BFHI in collaboration with IPHN in 499 Medical College Hospitals and Upazilla Health Complexes (UHCs) in order to improve early initiation and Exclusive Breastfeeding practice and strictly implementation of BMS marketing regulation law in the hospitals all around the country.
  12. Completed Training on “Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and Hygiene” for health service providers of 50 Smiling Sun Network Clinics in 2013.
  13. Participated in IUNS 20th International Congress of Nutrition in September 2013, Granada, Spain.
  14. Participated in One Asia Breastfeeding Partners’ Forum in November, 2013, Laos.
  15. Complementary Feeding Manual has developed supported by FAO through a course of work eg. Baseline survey, Development of recipes, Recipe trial, Laboratory test, Development of manual of recipes and guidelines for complementary food. 2013 and 2012.
  16. South Asian Conference on IYCF was conducted from 10 to 12th April, 2012 collaboration with BMA, OGSB, BNP, BPS, BPA and BPMPA and supported by UNICEF Bangladesh, Save The Children Bangladesh, World Vision Bangladesh, Plan Bangladesh, Alive & Thrive, SMC, ACME and Sanoffi Aventis.
  17. Assessment for World Breastfeeding Trend Initiative (WBTi) was conducted in 2012.
  18. BBF Collaboration with IPHN conducted TOT for Revitalizations of Baby Friendly Hospital and training on Baby Friendly Hospital has started.
  19. To implement the World Breastfeeding Declaration Prime Minister No. 4 Institute of Public Health provided 4 rooms for Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation.
  20. With the support of UNICEF a pilot project was conducted on BMS code monitoring into four divisions in Bangladesh with Collaboration of IPHN.
  21. Training conducted on National advocacy on IYCF & BMS code monitoring for internee doctors and nurses, supported by Plan Bangladesh.
  22. National workshop on raising Exclusive Breastfeeding Rate was conducted on 15th November, 2012, with collaboration of WHO.
  23. First ever ‘World Breastfeeding Conference -2012’ observed in New Delhi from 6th to 9th December, 2012 where closing session was chaired by Honorable Health Minister.
  24. According to the Honorable Prime Minister order of 2009 in World Breastfeeding Week, BBF has been accommodated of the office of Institute of Public Health with required of office space for strengthening BBF in 2012.
  25. For the first time ‘World Breastfeeding Week-2010’ (WBW) observed as the national event by the Govt. of the Republic of Bangladesh in association with BBF and inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister.
  26. Co- convener of International IYCF forum like One Asia Breastfeeding Partners’ Forum and lead breastfeeding forum with IBFAN.
  27. National IYCF Conferences were done twice
  28. Developed training curriculums and various resource books and trained more than 15,670 trainees on the management of breastfeeding and relevant issues.
  29. BFHI certification was done on 498 hospitals in country by BBF.
  30. Production and Distribution of numerous Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) materials (Five Prime messages, ten steps, brochures, fliers and posters on Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding) are published. Publications of booklet on child nutrition, breastfeeding promotion, maternal nutrition and working women.
  31. BBF raised a strong campaign against Melamine movement in 2008, Bangladesh
  32. BBF made a Joint statement with WHO & UNICEF titled ‘Breastfeeding Protect Children in emergencies’ in 2007.
  33. Formed of South Asian Breastfeeding Partner’s Forum (SABPF) led by BBF (Bangladesh) 1st Conference in Dhaka, 2000.
  34. Observation of the World breastfeeding Week at the national level involving GoB and non-GoB and development partners every year from the beginning in 1992.
  35. Establishment of National IYCF Forum from Innocenti declaration in 1990 as CPPBF and BBF in Bangladesh.
  36. Dhaka Declaration by President and PM was done by BBF in 1991.
